Montgomery County Coroner’s Office
state-of-the-art for today and tomorrow
Montgomery County, PA | 21,400 SF

The genesis of this project was the need for the County to provide a new Coroner office that is state-of-the-art for current use and will continue to meet the needs for the next 40 years. In collaboration with the County, HSA worked on creating a state-of-the-art autopsy suite that will serve the County for many years to come, with equipment custom to the project. The administration space has also been revamped, providing for the current needs as well as allowing for future expansion. It is now grouped in one central area for better work flow communication. The new arrangement of spaces also allows for new program spaces, such as a conference room and break room, that were not previously available.
In addition to the direct needs of the Coroner, HSA worked with the County to provide additional front-facing public spaces, such as a training room and a viewing room, that is respectful of visitors that come in under various circumstances. The exterior’s expansive glazing emphasizes the gathering spaces while the canopy of wood and steel highlights the entrance and makes entry more welcoming. The overall exterior is influenced by the surrounding vernacular in material palette with some modern touches.
